Educational Architecture Work

The Museum of Architecture Project was assigned to my studio the Spring Semester of my Sophomore Year. We were instructed to transform a vacant area of Downtown Charlotte into a Museum dedicated to showcasing, housing, and educating about Architecture.
My initial ideas for this museum was to have three main concepts surrounding my site and building. They were to have interesting circulation throughout the site, a snaking movement that occurred in the site, & to have multiple buildings that created a campus on the site. The Museum became a campus that had snaking circulation flowing right through the open areas of the site leading to each individual building. Each building is a different height to create hierarchy between the buildings. Later on in the design process, the idea of carving into the buildings was incorporated. This carving had the purpose of creating a solid void condition that would showcase itself on the outer facades of the buildings as portals for natural light and viewports outside for the purpose of enjoying the Architecture around the site. Finally, a flattened circle was carved out in the center of the site creating a circular carve in all the buildings. This final carve serves as a connecting link between the three buildings and a direct viewpoint to the other buildings on the campus.
